For the last 11 years the Gryphon Trio
has been successfully introducing new audiences to chamber music
by commissioning exciting new works, producing multimedia projects
and by creating hands-on outreach and education programmes. The
Constantinople project is the most ambitious realization
of the group’s ongoing efforts to place chamber music in new
performance contexts thus introducing the art form to larger and
more diverse audiences. This project is a very large undertaking
for this ensemble but its successful completion and subsequent international
touring will open new doors and create opportunities for everyone
involved.
Because Constantinople involves artists specializing
in instrumental and vocal music, sound design, movement, computer
animation as well as stage and costume design the project has a
great deal to offer communities which present the work. The Constantinople
education programme will be made up two separate initiatives that
will be integrated into the touring schedule.
Pre-Concert Discussions
Discussions with Constantinople artists and
creative team members will focus on the issues that are explored
in the work as well as on revealing all the performance and technical
means in which the artistic goals are achieved.
Constantinople in the Schools
This initiative will thrust the artists and technical
specialists involved in the project into local schools, colleges
and universities where they will offer masterclasses or presentations
in music, movement, stage design, lighting, multimedia presentation
and sound engineering.
